Episode show notes/write up
Now there are often multiple underlying causes as to why you are struggling with things like digestive issues, pain, finding it difficult to lose weight or having no energy etc.
Things like the food you eat, your sleep quality, how you manage stress, your relationships, physical activity, toxin exposure all matter....
Though the often overlooked aspect of health is your emotional wellbeing and your stress levels...
If your human you have emotions and you encounter stressful situations.
and just to be CLEAR, emotions aren't either "good" or "bad"
Though when emotions or feelings of
- Fear
- Greif
- Anger
- Hurt
- Stress
- Betrayal
- Embarrassment
- Helplessness
Etc
Arent felt, processed and integrated, they can cause disharmony within your body.
The same goes with stress, if you are living in a state of high OR low-grade stress, your immune, digestive and reproductive systems can NOT function properly.
For example, when your body is in fight or flight stress mode:
Your blood gets pumped into your extremities instead of your digestive system and your digestive enzymes don't get released as they should resulting in digestive issues like bloating, gas, burping etc.
Your stress hormones start to dominate and dysregulate your natural hormone balance contributing to things like PMS, moodiness and even fertility issues.
Your body is only designed to deal with short term stressors, but these days many people constantly experience stress on the daily in some way shape or form such as; work, losing your keys, traffic, relationships, social (keeping up, trying to fit in, social dynamics), environmental, toxic load etc.
Sometimes when your stress or starting to bubble over it can be obvious if your moody, snappy, overwhelmed, anxious and consciously stressing out about something...etc.
Though sometimes it can be more subtle or totally subconscious, and show up as tiredness, digestive discomfort, worry, not feeling like yourself or being just generally unexcited about life ( you've lost your vibe )...
The thing is, your mind is super good at filtering out stuff so it almost feels normal to be stressed.
Though your subconscious remembers EVERYTHING and even STORES what isn't processed.
So you can't just sweep your emotions and stress under the rug and consider it dealt with.
And this isn't just me saying this, more and more research is coming out proving that your unprocessed emotions can be a major contributing factor to many health issues.
There's actually something called Metaphysics which is the study of looking BEYOND physical symptoms. 💫
Which in part studies, what you think, how you think, and how your thinking affects your physiology and your life.
Though so much of what you do and think is unconscious... like I'm taking 95% of the time most people are thinking and acting on autopilot🤯
This is why lifting the veil on the unconscious and non-serving mental patterns, beliefs and constructs, is necessary.
and why I decided to study life coaching, EFT, energy medicine and breathwork when I came to the realisation that dis-ease and disharmony within the body, wasn’t just a physical issue.
I can’t tell you how much energy I wasted trying to perfect my diet and analyse my situation + symptoms to manage my chronic digestive issues, low energy, shocking immunity and mental health struggles.
I started to feel like I was doing something wrong and that my body was broken, cause I felt like I was doing all the "right " things and I thought I had "tried everything"... though I soon realised I was missing a BIG key piece.
I was holding onto a lot from my past, I had no idea how to manage stress, I did a really good job of suppressing my emotions and I had so many destructive self-talk patterns and beliefs that I kept playing out in my mind and the way I lived on autopilot.
And as I was saying before STRESS, directly impacts your bodies ability to digestive food causing bloating, pain, gas etc plus they can also be a result of not fully digesting your EMOTIONS.
And just to give you some more examples:
Brain fog, low energy or up and down mood could be from spending a lot of mental energy in the past or future... holding onto past regret, anger, guilt, sadness or living in a state of worry, stress and overwhelm for example.
Trouble losing weight can be from high cortisol levels which often makes you hold onto more belly fat, and also it can metaphysically be the body trying to protect itself because of a past experience,
Binge eating is often something people do to self soothe when tough or confronting emotions come up and aren't being felt and processed or when stress hits for example.
The list goes on and on. I know it can be a little bit challenging to wrap your head around this at first, though it does start to make a LOT of sense when you allow yourself to get curious about it.
The main take away here is... putting a lid on your emotions and past experiences isn't helping, and stress is something that is a part of your life, though learning how to manage it is essential.
As constantly trying to bottle it all up and avoid it, will only cause it to start to spill out into your relationships, life, health etc.
and just because you may not be saying certain things out loud, doesn't mean the thoughts aren't there...
Cause they are there, whether you acknowledge them or not.
Showing up as negative self-talk, overwhelm, thinking of all the what-ifs this happens scenarios, holding onto resentment to something that happened in the past or maybe you blocked out something that happened and ever dealt with it...
Remember, your subconscious mind remembers EVERYTHING.
So you may be thinking you're doing yourself a service by just trying to "get on with your life or forget", but your subconscious mind doesn't work like that.
The only way to move past it is to go through it... To process it, to actually feel and acknowledge your emotions ad learn to manage stress.
We are living in a day and age where there is SO much modern stress, so its almost natural to feel stressed in this modern environment if you have properly learnt to regulate your nervous system.
Plus... We all have baggage from our past and there's no shame in getting help to process through it.
This could be in the form of therapy, with a conventional psychologist or trying alternative support like energy healing, EFT or life coaching to help you release the past, transform your mindset and move forward.
I can't say what is the best because different things work for different people, personally, a combined approach worked for me and it's why I incorporate energy medicine, life coaching, EFT, nutrition, naturopathy and lifestyle guidance with my clients and in my programs.
I want this episode to simply serve as a gentle reminder that your emotions are a normal natural and integral part of being human and all of your feelings and emotions are valid, no matter how big or small someone perceives your experience.
And its important to know, stress and traumatic events come in all shapes and sizes. What you may experience as traumatic or highly stressful, may not be to someone else. That doesn't make it wrong or less worthy of being supported around.
We all have our own challenges.
There was actually a big part of my life where I was experiencing symptoms of PTSD and I denied myself and belittled my experience for so long thinking that I did go to war and got shot at so I shouldn't "feel" this way... Though the reality was that I did.
I had intense flashbacks, memories and triggers.
I became emotionally numb, lost my joy, felt worthless and hopeless about the future.
My distorted eating, body image issues and obsessive training became worse.
I felt on edge, would get aggressive towards particular people, my sleep was affected
I would drive carelessly and not caring about whether I would get into a crash.
I also developed symptoms of OCD...
Having to walk a particular way to the work bathroom, only stepping on certain tiles, needing to touch things 3 times.
These were all things that I now look back on as symptoms of feeling SO out of control in my life.
These symptoms were caused by multiple stressful and unprocessed micro traumatic events adding up over time.
I say micro because at the time I didn't instantly register as a particular event as being traumatic though subconsciously and in reality my body registered that way, in that time of my life.
And I just want to add, I could have identified as someone who has depression, anxiety, having PTSD or OCD, though instead of OWNING that reality I did the WORK to work through it, to manage my stress and process my emotions.
And you get to decide too.
Again if you want extra support, seek it.
Speak to your doctor to get a referral to a psychologist, or work with a natural therapist that also incorporates stress management, a safe space for you to express and nourishing the nervous system into their approach.
This is something I am SUPER passionate about as its been a massive part of my journey, and why I incorporate it into my 1-1 sessions and programs.
