Episode ONE - The key to EPIC health ad whole body healing.

SHOW NOTES:

To be honest I felt a bit of pressure to get this right cause its episode 1, but after sitting down to think about what I wanna chat about in this first episode I'm pleased with what I've bought to the table..

I've decided to chat about a really common mistake people make when it comes to their health and decision making processes, so I'm going to shine some light on that and offer you some things to think about moving forward.

So im gonna jump straight into it.

Now the biggest mistake I see a lot of people make when it comes to addressing any health issue, is that they deeply believe Dr knows all or drs knows best...

And I get it, cause likely every time you had any sort of health issue your parents took you to the drs, and as an adult you probably still do this as a result of that early conditioning.

But let me ask you this.
Are doctors actually always right?
Does everyone who sees a Dr get better and get educated about their health?

In my experience and for many people I have worked with, the answer is a big NO.

When I was chronically sick with tonsillitis, had no energy, getting migraines all the time and could rarely eat without being in severe pain afterwards, all I got from the all the Drs I saw was antibiotics, panadol and nexium.

Not once was I ever educated about my health, food, lifestyle etc.
I just got scripts and kept accumulating more and more health issues and got sicker and sicker.

Cigarettes
I also want to add that there was actually a long period of time between the 1930's - 1950's where MANY doctors actually endorsed cigarette smoking.

So this just goes to show that they can get some things seriously wrong, and for a long period of time.

Antibiotics
I also feel another realisation is coming in regards to antibiotics, as so many people including myself have become antibiotic resistant, due to the over prescribing of them by Drs.

Though, there are some doctors that are starting to realise the devastating effects that the over prescribing of them is having on so many peoples gut health and overall health. But unfortunately there's still a long way to go for the rest of the conventional medical community to catch up..

COVID
The same could happen with covid too. Some doctors might look back in 10 years time and regret their current stand on the issue.

and I know this might be controversial to talk about right now, because there is a lot of reactivity around this topic, but I'm gonna speak about it regardless.

As I created this podcast so I can speak my truth and share openly without censorship..

Now there is a massive divide in the medical community right now, nearly everyone can agree with that.

Plus there is so much debate as to what the right approach to handling the covid situation is.

Some are saying:

  1. Masks, isolation and a vaccine is the answer, and we should stay locked down until everyone is vaccinated. While others are speaking out and saying that masks and isolation could even be detrimental to our immune system, as being exposed to people, viruses, bacteria and different environment help our immune system evolve and adapt.

  1. Combined treatment - Many other front line Drs have said they are using a combined approach of Hydroxychloroquine (an anti-malaria drug), an antibiotic like azithromycin or doxycycline plus a nutritional supplement of zinc for their COVID positive patients successfully. - There was actually a viral video of 20 front line Drs that went public with this information, though it was quickly silenced and censored from all media.

  1. Natural approach - While others Drs as well as natural health practitioners are fully supporting Vitamin D, A, C and zinc as these all support your bodies natural immune response.

Whos right and who's wrong? No one!

There's always MANY ways you can approach things, and somethings make more sense for certain people than others. - I don't believe a one size fits all approach is appropriate.

We all have our own personal truths, beliefs, circumstances and underlying health issues etc. So different approaches suit different groups of people.

It's my belief regardless, that we should all be allowed to make our own conscious health decisions after knowing all the options available. Not be forced down a certain path, and have information withheld from us. - Something that I'm seeing now more than ever.

What I do agree with
Now, in saying all of this. I think we can all agree that in a time of crisis, like breaking a bone or having a heart attack etc, we need to see a Dr ASAP. The western medical system is vital in these cases.

But the reality is that the western medical model takes a very reductionist approach to health, both in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases.

And because western model of health has broken the human body down into so many parts, they seem to have lost sight of the fact that they are dealing with a whole human being.

And needless to say that prescription drugs have become the backbone of modern medical practice.

  • If you're in pain, take an anti-inflammatory
  • Have an infection, take some antibiotics
  • If you're depressed, take an anti-depressant etc. etc.

These are simply bandaid approaches and don't actually get down to the root cause of the issue. You may get short term results, but in the long term there is no gain and you'll likely stay stuck in a suffering cycle.

Now you might be thinking, Dr's just don't have the time, and I agree.

Dr's are under the pump and that's why I believe Naturopaths, nutritionist and health coaches are so so important to help bridge the gap and help integrate a more holistic approach for people needing more support. Which is one of the reasons I decided to become a Naturopath.

Now If your not familiar with what I mean by a holistic approach, let me explain.

A holistic health approach is basically treating the person as a whole.

There's an intimate connection between all systems and parts of your body, as well as your mind, spirit and emotions. When one thing is out of balance, it can manifest in a different part of the body.

This is where specialist can become stuck, as they are so tunnel vision on just one area.

Here's some examples of how certain issues can be a manifestation of something else being out of balance..

  • Skin issues like acne, rashes, eczema or psoriasis are often actually caused buy an issue with gut health.
  • Digestive issues are not only related to gut health but also mental health.
  • Trouble losing weight can be related to cellular toxicity, sluggish digestive health, sleep and so many more things.
  • Mental health issues can be related to poor gut health.
  • Pain and inflammation can be a manifestation of unprocessed emotional emotional trauma that is stuck in the tissues as well as internal inflammation etc.

I could go on and on with this list, though I hope this is enough to enlighten you to the fact that your body is A LOT more complicated than you may have thought.

So when you're trying to improve any aspect of your health or life in any way a holistic approach is absolutely necessary if you want to get down to the root cause of your problem and overcome it for good.

And by all means an integrated approach is always a great idea, where you work with your GP to rule of any major issues and then work with a holistic practitioner to support you in getting your body, mind and spirit working in harmony again.

So you can get out of the suffering cycle and become truly empowered.

Throughout my health journey, I have witnessed and experience first hand how transformative a holistic approach to health can be. As it's exactly what got me out of my health mess, when I wasn't getting the support, guidance or results in the western medical system.

Now I haven't been sick in years, I can eat without discomfort, and I have sooo much more energy and love for life. I'm literally the healthiest and happiest I have ever been.

Wrap up
  1. Holistic approach treats the body as a whole.
  2. Gets to the root cause instead of treating symptoms
  3. Self empowering as you get to understand your body better and how it communicates with you.
  4. There's alway going to be differences of opinions and approaches in the health industry but also all areas of life.
  5. Some things work better for certain populations and people
  6. But remember there's no one size fits all approach

So I invite you to check in with yourself, if you're currently struggling with any health issue at the moment.

Have you tried a holistic approach?
Could you be missing something?
Could there be something deeper going on?
